My Org Chart Home

STYLE

5 years ago, my home did not look like this.

Ask my parents or my old roommates – this did not come naturally or easily. I had to work at. I wanted it, but didn’t always know how to achieve it.

What changed? I made a promise to my hubby – who is rather particular, by the way – that I would bring some of the “organizing” that I do at work, into our home. Little did I know, this would send me on a multi-year journey to bring beauty, order, and organization to every cluttered corner of our home.

“Run Your Home Like a Business”

You may have heard this advice before: Run your home like a business.

In the grand scheme of things, your household is a business. There is revenue in the form of household income. Non-discretionary expenses like your car payments, student loans, and your mortgage. There are discretionary costs in the form of travel, entertainment, and eating out.

And then, there are assets – the clutter, collectibles, and essentials that fill in the nooks and crannies – that require careful organization.

Enter my home decor organization ideas.

My Org Chart Home.

Home Decor and Organization Ideas

My brain works best when I can break things into categories. And just like an org chart, every corner of your home can be separated into zones.

In my pantry, I utilize my shelves to help me break my food and beverages into categories, each with a specified zone! You’ll notice that the most often-used zones are convenient places within easy reach. These are our categories from bottom to top:

  1. Drinks, water, soda & Topo Chico
  2. Cups, plates, napkins, trays, party-wear & serving-wear
  3. Chips, crackers, snacks, nuts, dried fruits, cookies, popcorn & grab’n go
  4. Condiments, jars, canned goods & a bread box
  5. Rice, beans, grains, pasta & cooking oils/vinegars
  6. Cereal, oats & baking in a box
  7. Flour, sugar, & salt

Categories help me stay organized, keep food fresh, see what I have (or don’t) so I can easily build my weekly grocery list and save money from unnecessary shopping and spending!

Every corner of your home can be separated into zones

My Org Chart Fridge

This spring, I made time to re-clean and reorganize different parts of our home. I got a bit off track with the “maintaining” part, but this year, I’m recommitting to organization – including our always-rotating fridge!

Similar to the pantry, I break our food and beverage into categories, creating zones for:

  1. Salad dressings
  2. Creamer and milk
  3. Condiments and sauce
  4. Grab-and-go snacks
  5. Lemonade and juice
  6. Spreads (jam, peanut butter, syrup)
  7. Wine
  8. Fresh veggies
  9. Fruits
  10. Meat and cheese

Of course, with a “grab and go” mentality throughout the day, this zone requires constant reorganization; however, an organized fridge helps keep me (and the family) feel prepared – and be efficient – for our week.

My Org Chart Home

Aside from my pantry and fridge, I like to collect, categorize and group our things in baskets, bottles, bins, jars, etc! You will find mini “org charts” throughout my home, from the kids playroom and garage, to my closet and vanity.

Conclusion

If you’re still a little overwhelmed, I’d love to share my secret weapon. Reach out to an organization professional! I discovered The Curated Home who brought beauty, order, and organization to my pantry and linen closet. Now, I get to focus on the “maintaining” and apply her home decor and organization ideas throughout my home.

Still unsure of where to start? I’d love to help! Although I’m not a professional, I’m a total Wanna-Be Designer and would love to help you space plan and come up with unique organization ideas for your home. Send me pictures of your pantry, fridge, or cluttered corner and we can get creative together.

HAPPY ORGANIZING!
